Career Opportunities in Indian Railways – Railway Bharti

Indian Railways, which forms the lifeline of the transportation network of our country, is a powerful sector that offers employment in the government sector. It is divided into various zones and in each of these zones thousands of openings are announced every year. The hiring is carried out under four groups, both gazetted (civil & administrative) and non-gazetted (technical & non-technical), by the associated RRB’s under the Railway Recruitment Control Board.

There are 4 types of post categories in Indian Railways namely Group: Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D. Jobs under each group has different eligibility criteria and selection process. High designations in Traffic Services, Personnel Service, Accounts Services, and Railway Protection Forces are covered by Group A employees. These employees are recruited by UPSC IES, IAS exam. Railway Recruitment – UPSC – RRB Vacancy

Indian Railway recruits the candidates for various positions under Group A and B, gazette ranked posts comes under these categories. Group C and D posts are non-gazette posts through UPSC exams and RRB recruitment exams.

Group A:- Group A positions are gazette ranked positions. The candidates are recruited by UPSC exams for Group A positions. Under UPSC exams Civil Services exam and Combined Engineering services exam are conducted.

Group B:- The employees working under Group C posts will get a promotion to Group B posts. Based on the seniority and the working skills the employees will get the promotion to the higher positions.

Group C: Under Group C jobs there are two cadres namely Technical and Non-Technical Cadres. RRB will conduct the recruitment process for these posts.

Technical – RRB Recruitment

Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal, and Telecommunication, etc are posts mention under the Technical Cadre in the Indian Railway Recruitment.

Non-Technical – RRB Vacancy

Group D:- Gangman, Switchman, Trackman, Cabinman, Leverman, Pointsman, Helper-II (Elect), Keyman, Shunter, Welder, Fitter, Porter, Helper-II (Mech) and Helper-II (S&T) are posts under the Railway Group D Jobs.

Eligibility Criteria for Railway Jobs – Educational Qualification

The foremost eligibility condition is that every candidate must possess the Nationality/ Citizenship. Candidates should have done 10+2 studies with physics and mathematics as main subjects/ B.SC/ ITI in computer networking/ data networking/ Electrician and other requisite qualification from any recognized institute. Candidates holding the graduation degree can apply for Group A posts. Candidates passed 10th / ITI or its equivalent examination can apply for Group C and Group D positions. The minimum age required for Indian Railway Technical post is 18 years and the maximum age limit is dependent upon the nature of the job.

Selection Procedure for Railway Jobs – Screening Process

Indian Railway invites online applications from the eligible candidates, to fill in many vacancies every year. Railway conducts exam through UPSC for the Group A posts. Railway Recruitment Board Exams for the Group C posts and the divisional exams for recruiting the candidates for Group D posts. There will be two stages in the selection process for the Group A positions in Railway Recruitment – written examination and personal interview. There will be no personal interview for Group C and D positions. There will be a physical standard test and Physical efficiency tests.
